Members of the Behavioral Health Ministry at STA had a wonderful opportunity on Wednesday, October 2 to share with 15 other parishes in the Diocese of Joliet how they had developed the ministry at STA for parishioners and their families struggling with mental health issues.
Through a full day workshop, sponsored by the Office for Human Dignity, Diocese of Joliet, they were able to provide educational information about mental health illness through presentations by SamaraCare Counseling. Other presenters, from St. Thomas the Apostle and St. Elizabeth Seton in Naperville, provided personal experiences with issues surrounding mental illness, the steps to take in regard to developing a ministry and pertinent discussion questions. A plan of action was shared for parishes to begin to formulate a ministry. We were honored that the Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon began our workshop with an opening prayer. A huge thank you to everyone who made this workshop possible.
