Pope Francis has challenged Catholic young people around the world to be missionary disciples. This year, middle school students, from St. Thomas, have accepted that challenge by being a part of the Just5Days mission program, from July 15-19, in St. Joseph, Michigan. This trip can be life-changing as these students are encouraged to make a habit of reaching out in service, not only while on mission, but also back home. In serving others, our middle school students are transformed.
How can we support our youth as they strive to grow as disciples of Jesus? Affirm the gifts that you see in our young people. I am constantly touched by how amazing our young people are, how full of energy and hope they are, and how they want to make the world a better place. Like all of us, though, they gain confidence from encouragement.
Please pray for our youth, especially those who have volunteered to be a part of Just5Days. Pray that their experience will be marked by joy and hope, that their service to those in need will be fruitful, and that they will grow in knowledge and faith through the experience.
The 2019 Just5Days team youth members include Isabella Chew, Lauren Cook, Anthony Cotner, Peter Galor, Tessa Giacolo, Martin Howley, Jacob Lee, Maggie Pepiot, Alyssa Ramirez, Rudy Reitmann, Bella Sieben, and Katherine Walbridge.
