Juneteenth

CelebratingJuneteenth_24q2_social_rgb

Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, and it also invites us to ask where freedom is still being denied today.

Consider victims of human trafficking, those trapped in the cycle of poverty, individuals trapped by addictions and workers being denied fair wages or unsafe working conditions. While no modern situation is identical to the evil of American slavery, people of faith are called to recognize and stand with all who experience oppression, exclusion, exploitation or injustice. As God heard the cries of the Israelites in Egypt, we are called to hear the cries of those whose dignity and freedom are threatened in our own time.
