Middle School Faith Formation Curriculum

Middle School Religious Education Classes

Religious Education classes meet approximately 20 times from September through April. The middle school text used is entitled Connect! Bringing Faith to Life, which offers a comprehensive overview of the Catholic faith that is correlated with the four parts, or pillars, of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

These pillars are:

(1) The Profession of Faith

This area is explored through Scriptures and Tradition as the sources of God’s revelation. The focus of this area are the teachings of the Catholic faith.

(2) The Celebration of the Christian Mystery

This area is explored through studying Liturgy and Sacraments in a way that students better understand and can more fully participate in these liturgies. Teaching on the Mass is supplemented with Altarations: The Mystery of the Mass Revealed.

(3) Life in Christ

This area explores Christian morality and justice, the principles embodied in the Ten Commandments, and how all the baptized are called to participate in the mission of Christ to make disciples of all nations and be Christ in the world.

(4) Christian Prayer

This area is explored through studying models of prayer in the Bible, prayer as a conversation with God, the Lord’s Prayer, and the many other ways we deepen our relationship with Jesus.

CREW

CREW welcomes all students in grades 6-8. CREW is centered on a desire for students to grow in faith and feel a sense of belonging within our faith community.

It is our goal that youth who participate in CREW:

Connect with others to build friendships

Reflect on our faith together and grow in faith themselves

Have fun and be Energized by their time together

Witness our faith through service and acts of kindness

CREW meets monthly (September-May) on Sundays from 4:15-5:45 pm. Then all are welcome to attend 6:00 pm Mass together.

Service Projects

To perform acts of service is an important part of our call as baptized Christians. Recent service opportunities include the MLK half-day of service, supporting St. Thomas the Apostle Harvest Sunday and the St. Thomas the Apostle Care Pantry, involvement in the 6:00 pm liturgy, volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, leading the living stations during Good Friday and assisting with Scripture Safari.
