All Good Health Includes Mental Health
Healing the Body, Mind and Spirit
Dealing with struggles is an expected part of life that cannot always be avoided, but sometimes those struggles become overwhelming. Sometimes they are temporary and sometimes they may persist as a mental illness – actually a “brain illness.” Strengthening the connection between the body, mind and spirit takes effort. Anyone can experience mental health issues which affect the whole person. Healing also has to take into consideration the person as a whole. Friends, family and your parish can make a difference in a person’s healing process.
The Behavioral Health Ministry at St. Thomas strives to break the stigma surrounding mental illness and to minister to the emotionally/mentally ill and their family and friends with confidentiality and respect through advocacy, prayer, education and support. By continuing to break the stigma, we can work toward a parish where everyone affected by mental illness can find the support and care they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
As our parish theme states we are:
- Cherished Deeply
- Charged – To go forward with spirit, energy, passion and enthusiasm
- Challenged –To carry each others’ burdens.
