St. Thomas Welcomes Deacon Tony Clishem

Welcome Deacon Tony

On April 27, St. Thomas the Apostle had the opportunity to welcome Deacon Tony Clishem and his wife, Carol, at a reception after Mass.

Deacon Tony will join Deacon Joe as our two active deacons at St Thomas. Deacon Tony will assist with Baptisms, Funeral visitations and committals, and Blessings. He will serve at Mass in addition to all the other ministries that Deacons perform.

Please welcome Deacon Tony Clishem and his wife, Carol, to St Thomas the Apostle. Bishop Hicks has just appointed Deacon Tony as deacon serving in ministry at St Thomas.

Bio for Deacon Tony Clishem

Since his ordination in 2018, Deacon Tony Clishem has exercised ministry at Christ the King Parish in Lombard. He also serves as the Office of Catechetical Formation Lead in the Department of Catechesis and Evangelization for the Diocese of Joliet. In this capacity, he oversees parish religious education programs and the diocesan School of Spiritual Direction. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in classical liberal studies and foreign language at the University of Notre Dame followed by a Master of Arts degree in elementary education from Roosevelt University. He earned his Doctoral Degree in educational leadership from National-Louis University. He has taught students at every level and worked as a school principal in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Deacon Clishem enjoys expressing himself in poetry and essays. His poems and articles have appeared in The Deacon Magazine, Christ is Our Hope Magazine, and Aleteia.org. His worst-kept secrets are his love of the old Peanuts Comic Strip and Notre Dame football. His greatest blessing has been his 37-year marriage to his wife, Carol, and the gift of two grown sons, Tim and John. Deacon Tony and Carol are looking forward to making many new friends as he begins his ministry at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish.
