Updating the St. Thomas Kitchen Project
You might have noticed that the kitchen has been updated in the last two months. The project started in the summer with a meeting of 15 parish groups that use the kitchen to support their ministries. Once we received their input, we replaced a 10-burner stovetop with two ovens, two gas griddles, a single-door refrigerator, and a single-door freezer and added a double-door refrigerator and a stand-up freezer.
Although the list is extensive, here are some reasons for replacing equipment. Stove/Oven — The oven didn’t hold a consistent temperature. At times, the product being cooked was burned. The stove couldn’t be adjusted to create a consistent temperature. Griddles — The lighting of the pilot assembly was inconsistent, which could cause a safety hazard. The Refrigerators were 30 years old, and we also replaced them with stand-up models to allow space for the new double-door refrigerator.
All the utensils and supplies were organized into plastic containers, allowing the cooks easy access and making working in the kitchen a joy!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Deb Scheckel, Kathy Sander, Jill Dorian, Amy Audiffred, Carol Bax, Bob Hartmann and Joseph Cuzzone for working on this successful project that will benefit St. Thomas for decades to come.
This project couldn’t have been started without the generosity of the people of St. Thomas. Thank you for being the engine that moved the kitchen project forward! This is a testament to the heart of our parish.
