Emergency Procedures at St. Thomas
Due to the recent increase in medical emergencies occurring during weekend masses, here is a brief summary of the policies in place at St. Thomas the Apostle:
- An ambulance is called in any case where someone has lost consciousness or is experiencing chest pain.
- No medications may be provided to the person experiencing distress – only water and a cold pack.
- The liturgy will continue as the paramedics take care of the situation at hand. No additional attention needs to be drawn to the situation, as the person experiencing distress deserves privacy during the ordeal.
- The presider will be continually informed of the situation during the liturgy and acknowledge it appropriately with the congregation after the paramedics have taken care of the person in need.
This policy, and those in the case of a Fire Emergency and Financial Solicitation, can be found here.
