THE SACRAMENTS OF HEALING: Celebrating the healing power of Jesus

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation is a grace-filled milestone in the Catholic faith. It is the first time a child experiences the healing power of God’s forgiveness in a personal way. Through this sacrament, children learn that God’s love is unconditional and that His mercy is always available to restore peace and joy to their hearts. First Reconciliation prepares them to grow closer to God and to live with kindness, honesty and compassion.

During the celebration of First Reconciliation, children meet privately with a priest to confess. The priest speaks words of comfort and guidance, reminding them that God forgives them completely. This moment helps fill the child’s heart with peace, renewal and a fresh start — a powerful reminder that God’s mercy is stronger than any mistake.

Preparing for First Reconciliation is a time of learning, reflection and spiritual growth. Children are taught about the importance of recognizing right and wrong, saying “I’m sorry,” and making choices that reflect God’s love. With the support of parents, teachers, and the parish community, they learn to understand the meaning of sin, forgiveness and grace. This preparation helps them see Confession as an opportunity to experience God’s healing presence.
