All Saints

Saturday, November 1, is the Solemnity of All Saints. Since this feast falls on a Saturday, it is NOT a holy day of obligation this year. On this day the Church honors all the saints of heaven, God’s holy ones — known and unknown to us. We celebrate all the holy men and women who, throughout the ages, exemplified the faith; whose lives, in some way or another, mirrored the Paschal Mystery of Christ in profound ways. This solemnity honors all the saints; in particular those who are not individually recognized throughout the year. This day, coupled with the November 2 commemoration of all the faithful departed (All Souls), stands at the beginning of the month of November — a month in which we remember and pray for the dead.

All Souls Day

Our annual All Souls Day Liturgy will be held at St. Thomas Sunday, November 2, at the 11:15 am Mass. Those who have died this past year will be remembered in a special way. You are invited to participate by bringing a candle forward during the Prayer of the Faithful when your loved one’s name is called (candles provided). You may also bring a picture or memento to place on the tables in front of the sanctuary in memory of your loved one. The liturgy will be followed by a reception in the Gathering Area. For more information, call Lori Culberson at 630.355.8980, x120.

Veterans Day

Next weekend, November 8–9, St. Thomas will celebrate veterans in a very special way. All veterans will be asked to stand for a blessing and to be recognized for all that they have done in service to our country.

Book of Life

During the month of November, there will be a display to remember our beloved departed by the baptismal font. Also, there is a book for you to enter names of deceased loved ones. All the names that are entered in this book will be prayed for in a special way during the month of November.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place Sunday, November 2, from 7:00–8:00 pm in the Church. It will also be offered Friday, November 7, from 9:00 am–12:00 pm in the Chapel.

At Home with the Word

At Home with the Word books will be available for purchase November 8–9 after all weekend Masses. The regular print edition is $9.00 and the large print edition is $13.00. This book is a great tool for breaking open the Sunday Scriptures at home, helping you to reflect further on God’s word and preparing to celebrate the Sunday Liturgy. Following the sales on the weekend of November 8–9, the books will be for sale at the reception desk during regular business hours.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

St. Thomas the Apostle invites you to celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick Sunday, November 16, at 9:00 am in the chapel.

As a Catholic community of faith, we have the Holy Sacraments to give us strength, nourishment and healing. Anyone, of all ages, can benefit from the sacrament of anointing — as many times as needed! There are no limits to anointing, as we are all in need of healing of various troubling conditions — physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Please join us for this special celebration.

Thanksgiving Taizé Prayer

St. Thomas will have a Taizé style prayer service Monday, November 24 from 7:00–8:00 pm in the Lighthouse. Come begin the week of Thanksgiving with this unique style of peace-filled, meditative prayer.

Thanksgiving Day Mass

St. Thomas’ Thanksgiving Day Mass will be Thursday, November 27, at 9:00 am. All are invited to bring bread and wine that you will use over the Thanksgiving holiday to be blessed at this Mass. After the liturgy, you will take home the items that you brought.
