In Memory of Kathy McGuire (Honaker)

Kathy Honaker

We share with sadness the news of the passing of Kathy McGuire (now Honaker), the gifted artist who sculpted and donated the beloved statue of St. Thomas the Apostle that has stood in our parish since 1984. Kathy returned home to the Lord on Friday, December 5.

Her son, Ryan McGuire, wrote to us with gratitude for the role our parish played in their family’s life, recalling how deeply St. Thomas the Apostle Church and its community shaped their memories. Kathy often spoke of how her work was inspired by the Holy Spirit, keeping a bust of St. Thomas in her home as a reminder of God’s grace and providence at work in her life.

Please pray for the repose of her soul and for the comfort of her family. Her obituary is below:

It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of Kathleen Jean Honaker, age 79, of Versailles, Kentucky, on December 5th, 2025. Kathy was born on October 11th, 1946, in East Chicago, Indiana to Albert and Jean Kollat, and from the very beginning, brought joy and kindness to everyone around her.

Kathy lived a life full of purpose, joy, and compassion. After attending Ball State University, she built a career that ranged from professional modeling to financial development roles with various companies. Beyond professional achievements, Kathy was known for her benevolence, compassion, and generosity, and she cherished time spent with her family. Kathy was also an artist, initially completing works in stained glass, watercolors and oils. However, guided by the Holy Spirit, she was inspired in 1984 to sculpt a full-sized statue of St. Thomas the Apostle, which she donated to Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville, Illinois, where it stands to this day. Her determination and spirit were inspirational, and those who knew Kathy will remember the kindness in her eyes and heart, her warm smile, and unwavering support.

Kathy leaves behind a loving family: her husband Martin Honaker, her son Ryan McGuire and daughter in law Cristiane McGuire, her grandkids Emma and Mia, and her brother Roger Kollat. She was preceded in death by her parents. Their memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved them.

In keeping with Kathy’s wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donating to a children’s charity of your choice or offering a candlelit prayer of eternal peace.

We will forever carry Kathy’s kindness, love and devotion with us.
