A sacrament is an outward sign of God’s grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church. Through these sacred celebrations, God fills us with divine life and makes His love present within us and in the world. The symbols and visible rituals of each sacrament help us encounter that grace in a tangible way. When we approach the sacraments with open hearts and readiness, they have the power to transform us.
We celebrate the sacraments within the faith community because they strengthen not only our personal relationship with God, but also our unity as members of the Body of Christ.
Sacraments of Initiation
The three Sacraments of Initiation — Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharis — bring us into full communion with the Church.
In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we are strengthened by the Holy Spirit and equipped for loving service to the Church. Confirmation completes our baptismal grace and marks our deeper participation in the universal Church, celebrated through the ministry of the Bishop.
Adult Confirmation at St. Thomas
Adult Confirmation preparation is intended for those who have already been baptized and received First Communion but have not yet completed the full process of initiation. This preparation allows adults to receive the final Sacrament of Initiation — Confirmation.
Because the faith journey of adults is unique, we offer a preparation process specifically for adults, separate from our teen Confirmation program.
St. Thomas offers a series of classes each spring to prepare adults for Confirmation. The Adult Confirmation Mass is celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet, emphasizing our connection to the wider Church through the Bishop.
