Fathers Who Carry More Than Their Own Dreams
On Father’s Day, we give thanks for the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, godfathers and father figures who guide, protect and sacrifice for their families. This year, we also remember immigrant and refugee fathers — men who often carry extraordinary burdens in silence.
Many fathers leave behind everything familiar so their children might live in safety, attend school freely or simply sleep without fear. Some flee violence, war, political persecution or crushing poverty. Others work multiple jobs in a new country while learning a new language and culture, all while trying to preserve the dignity and traditions of home.
The risks they take are enormous: Yet many continue because of love — the same love that has always defined fatherhood at its best: the willingness to sacrifice oneself for one’s children.
This Father’s Day, may we pray for all fathers who carry heavy responsibilities — especially those who crossed borders, oceans or deserts so their children might have hope.
