LEAP of Faith
“We are most human when we see the humanity in others.” (author unknown)
The Inclusive Justice Initiative periodically highlights different groups and traditions. We invite you to take a LEAP of faith with us … discovering the commonalities we all share.
Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15)
Learn: These 30 days celebrate the heritage, history, traditions and cultural diversity of Hispanic Americans rooted in 20 countries and territories: Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. It straddles two months to include dates that commemorate independence for five Central American countries, and Mexico and Chile. Our national observation week began in 1968, under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded to a month by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. Pray:
O God, you have made of one blood all the people of earth, but you have also richly blessed us with a world of many languages, cultures and traditions. We thank you for many contributions which Hispanic Americans have made – and continue to make — to our great country. Enable us always to learn from and appreciate each other. Make us even stronger as one nation because of our diverse gifts and experiences. Enrich our faith and understanding as we celebrate together during this meaningful month. Amen.
