Excellence Grounded in Faith

All throughout the month of February in Art class at ASCA, students have participated in an African Art Unit in celebration of Black History Month. Students have examined and discussed the beautiful art works of African artists and their subject matter, which is found in their God given environment. Each grade explored a different form of African art, the elements that make it unique, and the cultural symbolism related to each piece.

Along with the African Art Unit, the students at ASCA are creating luminaries for The Crystal Gala, All Saints’ annual Dinner Dance Auction celebration which will be held on Friday, March 6. Luminaries in the Roman Catholic Church were created to help guide the spirit of the Christ child into people’s homes during the Christmas season. Often, they are lit in remembrance of someone in prayer.

Each student will create a stained glass window for their luminary, as well as designing a cross to go on their window. The luminaries will be blessed, and a prayer will be said the night of the event!
