Domestic Violence — Things to Know

From the Behavioral Health Ministry

Domestic and family violence includes economic, physical, sexual, emotional and psychological abuse of children, adults or elders.

If you are a victim of domestic violence here are 5 things to know:

  • You do not deserve to be abused — You have the right to be safe.
  • It is not your fault — You are not the cause of someone else’s violent behavior.
  • We are afraid for you (and your children) — We know that domestic abuse escalates over time, and we believe it will only get worse.
  • You are not alone — Nearly one-third of women report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives.
  • Help is available — You have the right to make your own choices. You do not have to go through this alone; support is available for you.
