Deacon Mike was ordained in August of 2007. He is now pursuing his fourth career that has spanned a life long diverse path of occupations. Originally Mike taught in a parochial High School for several years followed by an 18 year career with International Harvester, and culminating with a 21 year career with AT&T/ Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies before accepting a voluntary retirement program in 2001. He recently (2007) finished a 2 year clinical pastoral educational program at the University of Illinois Medical Center Hospital in Chicago where he is a part time chaplain. Mike is also attending the Institute of Pastoral Studies graduate school of Loyola in Chicago.
Deacon Mike and his wife Kathryn were married in 1961 and they have five adult children, all of whom are married. He and his wife have eleven grandchildren. Currently Mike and Kathryn coordinate the baptism program at St. Thomas. They were also active in the marriage preparation program. Mike has been and is currently on the RCIA team of catechists. He is also an active participant in the Minister of Care area where he specializes in the Befriending Companionship ministry as the coordinator of this program that reaches out to the home bound and those confined to health care facilities. The primary focus of his ministry is to be the presence of Jesus to all those that he meets and interacts with.
