“If you want peace, work for justice.” — Pope Paul VI
The Inclusive Justice Initiative (IJI) invites you to take a LEAP of faith with us … exploring Catholic Social Teaching. This month, we are focusing on Solidarity. We are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic and ideological differences. This includes welcoming our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters.
Learn: In December 2023, Pope Francis gave permission to priests to offer blessings to couples in same-sex relationships and other irregular situations by distinguishing clearly between “ritual and liturgical” blessings that are given sacramentally, and “spontaneous” blessings that are given pastorally. Explore: Fiducia Supplicans opens the door to greater inclusivity within the Church, a priority of Pope Francis to recenter those on the margins and make them a pastoral priority. Explore the significance of this document at https://bit.ly/uscatholicarticle
Act: Show your solidarity. If you cannot attend this year’s Aurora Pride Parade https://www.aurorapride.org on Sunday, June 9, watch for other community events this month. You can also visit Naper Pride, a family centered celebration of the LGBTQ+ members of our community. https://naperpride.org
Pray:
Lord God, our Maker,
The work of your hands displays your goodness and glory;
It is marvelous to behold.
From the most intricate snowflake to the grandest of mountain peaks,
With each inbreaking of the sun’s rays that paint the sky until day’s end,
Your limitless love creates it all.
As we gaze, then, upon your children,
The special co-creators you have made
To experience you and your beauty,
May we always appreciate the dignity of each person:
Straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender.
May we witness your extravagant artistry of each beloved,
Celebrate your Divine imprint upon each heart,
And recognize how You fashion each human being with purpose and wonder.
Your limitless love creates us all.
Amen.
